Seriously, no other subject I've studied seems to have such a dearth of passion in the teaching and writing - not even mathematics or statistics which you would expect to have some similarity.
I'm giving serious thought to writing my own introductory text, partially as a revision aid and partially just for the hell of it. I couldn't do much worse than what is out there.
